Welcome to a new Let's Play! I'm sorry for the big delay, i had some exams and a lot of troubles in my real life so i couldn't dedicate much time to UGP. But now i'm here with a new tutorial.
So, what's Mednafen? This unproneunceable program is none other than a powerful multisystem terminal-based emulator for Linux! And this time i used it to play some old Nintendo 8-Bit (NES) games! Now you're thinking "why should i use a terminal-based emulator when there are two alternatives with a front-end?". The answer is simple: the other 2 emulators don't work for me. I'm talking about GFCEU (a front-end for FCEU emulator) which seems to have issues with sound, and FCEUX, which crashes after 30 seconds of playing (and apparently there's no workaround). Anyway, this emulator is easy to install and to set-up. Let's see how!
This must be the choice!
Mednafen has its own Linux client, so there's no choice.
Talking about performances...
First of all, my hardware:
agp_aperture_size: 256
cpu: AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 955 Processor
cpu_ghz: 0.80
distro: Ubuntu 12.04 precise
kernel: 3.2.0-27-generic
machine_bitness: 64
memory: 3953
soundcard: HDA ATI SB at 0xfbcf4000 irq 16
soundcard_driver: ALSA Version 1.0.24
videocard_direct: True
videocard_driver_version: 4.2.0 NVIDIA 302.17
videocard_manufacturer: NVIDIA Corporation
videocard_ram: 1024
videocard_type: GeForce GTX 550 Ti/PCIe/SSE2
x_version: X.Org X Server 1.11.3
Sound and graphics work like a charm on Ubuntu 12.04 64-Bit!
Installation
The process takes about 1 minute.
Running
